Luis Martinez (b. 1948), a native of Puerto Rico, lived in Lorain, Ohio, from age three through the end of his schooling. He attended Lorain County Community College and The Ohio State University. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam, 1970-1971. Maritnez, who was awarded two Purple Hearts, was one of 33 veterans interviewed for a book,
The Luis Martinez Papers, 1975-1986 and undated, consist of minutes of the Spanish-American Committee of Cleveland, Ohio, a history of the Spanish-American Committee, correspondence, news releases, mailing lists, and newspaper clippings.
This collection pertains largely to the Hispanic Community in Cleveland, Ohio, and touches upon such issues, institutes, and events as bilingual education in Cleveland Public Schools, San Juan Bautista Church, Jose Feliciano, the history and activities of the Spanish-American Committee, and other social issues in Cleveland during the years 1975-1986.
The collection is arranged by document type and then chronologically. It has material in Spanish as well as in English.
