Louis Kaferle (1900-1985) was a Cleveland, Ohio, resident who was very active in many facets of the local Slovenian community. He was a member and officer of the Slovenian National Benefit Society, a writer for the local Slovenian newspapers and magazines, president of Cankarjev Ustanov, an avid participant in the Slovenian musical and cultural arts activities, and a supporter of many Slovenian social organizations.
The Louis Kaferle Papers, 1919-1984 and undated, consist of papers relating to many Slovenian organizations, including bylaws, minutes, correspondence, financial papers, articles, reviews, newspaper clippings, programs, scripts and score sheets. A portion of the material is in Slovenian.
This collection is useful for understanding many of the Slovenian groups found in Cleveland, Ohio, especially the Jadran Singing Society, Glasbena Matica Dramatic Society, Lodge #142 of the Slovene National Benefit Society, and the Slovene Workmen's Home.
The collection is arranged in two series.
