The John Hyde Gehrung Family of Cleveland, Ohio, began in 1850 when Johann Gehrung (1831-1894) came to Cleveland from Wurttemburg, Germany. Some of his descendants became prominent Cleveland druggists. His great-grandson, John Hyde Gehrung (1917-1980) of Cleveland, made his living as an engineer with General Motors Company in Detroit, Michigan. His hobby, however, was genealogy, and he spent much of his spare time working on it from 1932 until his death. He was a lifelong member of the Western Reserve Historical Society and through his estate gave generously to the Society so that it could add to its genealogical collection.
The John Hyde Gehrung Family Papers, Series III, ca. 1950 - ca. 1980 consist of John Hyde Gehrung's genealogical files on some of his ancestral families.
This collection is useful to anyone interested in genealogical information on any of the Collister, Kinley, Felbrigg, Hyde, Mascarene, Oatley, Rhodes, and Perry families.
