The George S. Dively Foundation (f. 1956) is a private fund which was endowed and administered by George S. Dively, a noted Cleveland industrialist and philanthropist. In later years, and after his death in 1988, the fund has been administered by his son, Michael Dively, an attorney and former Michigan state legislator. Funding has come from the family's private donations and investment income from the fund's assets.
Mr. Dively wrote and spoke often about his belief in private sector responsibilities, and the Foundation was established to put this belief into practice. He h ad a strong interest in higher education, and through corporate giving programs, privately, and through the George S. Dively Foundation, he contributed to or established scholarship funds for engineering, business administration, graphic arts, and urban affairs students at numerous institutions, including the University of Pittsburgh, Harvard Business School, Lock Haven (Pennsylvania) State College, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, and the Florida Institute of Technology. The foundation also contributed to other organizations which reflected his interests in civic improvement, enterprise development, and the arts.
The George S. Dively Foundation Records, 1956-1991, consist of articles of incorporation, code of regulations, annual reports, minutes, correspondence, bills, bank statements, income tax returns, financial reports, grant proposals, contribution records, investment records, legal documents, agreements, grants, and awards.
