John V. Corrigan (b.1920) was born in Cleveland, Ohio, of Irish descent with ancestry in County Mayo. He is married to Eileen M. Corrigan (nee Hopkins). Corrigan attended St. Ignatius High School, John Carroll University, and Case Western University School of Law. While pursuing his degree at John Carroll University, he enlisted in the United States Army in July 1942. His military service included twenty-five months in the European Theater of Operations, earning him all five battle stars. Upon receipt of his law degree, Corrigan set up a law office in Cleveland with Martin F. Franey. In 1950 he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives. Three years later he was elected to the Cleveland Municipal Court. He was elected to the Cuyahoga Court of Common Pleas in 1956. His last three years serving in the Court of Common Pleas was as chief justice. In 1973 he was elected to the Ohio Court of Appeals. In recognition of significant contributions to the improvement of the administration of justice, Judge Corrigan was presented with several awards. He served as chairman of the Rules of Advisory Committee to the Supreme Court of Ohio. Judge Corrigan's avocations included membership on several boards, including the Children's Council. He served on many committees, including the Executive Committee of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens. His church activities included co-chairing the building campaigns for Mount Augustine in Richfield.
The John V. Corrigan Papers, 1938-1999, consist of articles of incorporation of the Irish Cultural Garden, a biographical sketch of John V. Corrigan, a book, a bulletin, conference papers, correspondence, historical data regarding the Irish Cultural Garden, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, programs, and speeches.
