The Jewish Orphan Home Alumni Association (JOHAA) was founded in July 1888 and was open to all those who resided within the Jewish Orphan Home (JOH). The primary goal of the JOHAA was to aid and assist the Jewish Orphan Home alumni and graduates; perpetuate and foster friendships among the alumni; and support and assist Bellefaire, the Jewish Orphan Home successor. This collection consists of a booklet, bulletins, correspondence, lists, memos, minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, photographs, poetry, programs, a sport book, and video recordings.

Biography of Jewish Orphan Home Alumni AssociationThe Jewish Orphan Home Alumni Association (JOHAA) was founded in July 1888 and was open to all those who resided within the Jewish Orphan Home (JOH). The primary goal of the JOHAA was to aid and assist the Jewish Orphan Home alumni and graduates; perpetuate and foster friendships among the alumni; and support and assist Bellefaire, the Jewish Orphan Home successor. The JOHAA held periodic reunions into the early twenty-first century. A 115th reunion was held in 2003.
Scope and ContentThe Jewish Orphan Home Alumni Association, 1929-2006 and undated, consists of a booklet, bulletins, correspondence, lists, memos, minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, photographs, poetry, programs, a sport book, and video recordings. This collection is of interest to those studying the Jewish Orphan Home Alumni Association, Bellefaire, and Jewish orphans. Researchers with an interest in the history of Jewish orphans and child welfare will find the collection of special interest. Because the collection includes materials from the 1920s and 1930s, and because reunion photographs are well identified, genealogy researchers may find the collection a valuable source.
