The Jewish War Veterans posts in the Cleveland, Ohio, area included as part of their groups several ladies auxiliaries. Photographs in this collection relate primarily to the Paul A. Rosenblum Post 44 (formerly the Buckeye State Post); members of other posts are pictured but not identified. The ladies auxiliaries supported Cleveland-area Jewish war veterans by assisting at the Veterans Administration hospitals, providing visitation to members, conducting military funerals, and maintaining graves of veterans in Jewish cemeteries.
The Jewish War Veterans Ladies Auxiliaries Photographs, 1940-2001, consist of 3 black and white and 86 color images of Jewish War Veterans ladies auxiliaries events. Many of the photographs relate to Paul A. Rosenblum Post 44 (formerly Buckeye State Post).
This collection is of value to researchers studying women's organizational life, military history, the Ladies Auxiliary of Jewish War Veterans, Jewish War Veterans of the United States, or Jewish community groups in Cleveland, Ohio. The photographs document events sponsored by the veterans' posts and auxiliaries such as meetings, conventions, ceremonies, and parties and so will be of interest to researchers of Jewish women's history. The photographs also document the philanthropic activities of Jewish war veterans, such as their work in Jewish cemeteries and visits local nursing homes. The photographs show how Jews helped to shape public memory of the military conflicts of the twentieth century. Of special interest are two photographs in Folder 6 of a junior drum corps sponsored by Jewish War Veterans Post 14 in 1942.
