Woodruff Foundation http://catalog.wrhs.org/collections/view?docId=ead/MS4838.xml The Woodruff Foundation was established in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1986 with proceeds from the sale of Woodruff Memorial Institute programs to Saint Vincent Charity Hospital and Health Center and the sale of the Institute's land and buildings to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Founded in Cleveland in 1935 by Mabel Woodruff as Ingleside Hospital, it was a private psychiatric hospital. After bankruptcy and closing in 1968, Ingleside Hospital reopened in 1969 as the Woodruff Memorial Institute (also known as Woodruff Hospital). The Woodruff Foundation gives grants to organizations that provide substance abuse services, mental health/crisis services, and alcoholism services to adults and adolescents in northeastern Ohio.
