Hardman initiated many advertising campaigns which were adopted by other utilities and were recognized by the advertising industry. Hardman directed Ohio Bell's weekly radio program, the "Ohio Story", contributing historical research and script composition as well as directing the show. Hardman began his own public relations and advertising company, Anson F. Hardman and Associates, in 1951. He also served in various editorial and advertising capacities for the periodical Inside Ohio.
