Metcalf (born 1844) was a Liverpool, Ohio, native who served in Company D, 136th Regiment, New York Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. During 1869 he practiced law in Mississippi, where he had a strong interest in the attitudes and actions of residents of this state toward Reconstruction..
