Wickham, Gertrude Van Rensselaer http://catalog.wrhs.org/collections/view?docId=ead/MS1085.xml Gertrude Van Rensselaer Wickham (1844-1930) was a journalist, author, and local historian, of Cleveland, Ohio. Wickham was the first woman to hold an editorial position on a Cleveland newspaper. Her entry into journalism was as a weekly contributor to the Sunday Post, and later as a fashion columnist with the Cleveland Herald beginning in 1878, which resulted in the creation of a women's department. She joined the editorial staff of the Cleveland Leader in 1881, and her columns were oriented toward needy women and children. In 1886 she was one of the charter members of the Cleveland Woman's Press Club (later the Cleveland Writers' Club). Wickham was involved in the publication of Pioneer Women of the Western Reserve, and Pioneer Families of the Western Reserve, and she collected important genealogical information on women of the Western Reserve. She was also a prominent member of the Cleveland chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
