In 1865 he joined the Photographic Corps of the Union Pacific Railroad and traveled the route west of the Missouri River, shooting photographs for a history of the region. The experience led to a series of lectures and exhibitions throughout the eastern United States. The collection consists of a genealogical scrapbook and miscellaneous papers, including charts, clippings, photographs, biographical sketches, certificates, and copies of letters, 1604-1904. Also included are 1878 and 1879 brochures from Sedgwick's lecture series.
