Willeyville, Ohio http://catalog.wrhs.org/collections/view?docId=ead/MS1317.xml Willeyville was an allotment in the southeast section of Ohio City, Ohio, purchased by John W. Willey (Cleveland's first mayor), James S. Clark and others for commercial development. The group also purchased land directly opposite this allotment in the Cleveland Flats area on the east side of the Cuyahoga River, and then built the Columbus Street bridge to connect the two sections of land. This thoroughfare diverted Cleveland-bound traffic that had previously traveled through the West Side Market of Ohio City directly to Cleveland via the new Willeyville area and Cleveland Centre, precipitating the Columbus Street "Bridge War" of 1836. The collection consists of a statement showing sale of lots in Willeyville, 1835-1836; certificates of tax sales, 1838-1844; and notices of tax delinquency, 1843-1846. http://catalog.wrhs.org/collections/view?docId=ead/MS1317.xml Wed, 01 Jan 2014 12:00:00 GMT William L.
