During World War I he worked with the National Union of Czech Catholics in Chicago for the freedom of Czechoslovakia and corresponded with Fr. Oldrich Zlamal concerning efforts to unite Cleveland Czechs behind the movement. After the war he edited a Cleveland daily Czech paper, the American, and resumed his church work at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
