 Abstract:  Pelatiah Adams was a physician who practiced medicine in Geauga County, Ohio, from 1818 until his death in 1856. The collection consists of an account book detailing Dr. Adams' house calls, prescriptions, bills owed and paid by patients. In addition, the book contains a brief tract Adams wrote on his religious beliefs. In general, the collection's greatest value is as a source of social history, providing information on the medical practice of a 19th century doctor in the rural Western Reserve. It also sheds light on the various ailments suffered by people of the times and the cures prescribed.
