The collection pertains primarily to the formation of the Cleveland Branch and the Cleveland College Chapter of the NAACP as well as the social conditions of Cleveland African Americans in the early 20th century.

White (1897-1970), a lawyer and judge, and his wife Stella, a writer and journalist, were both active in African American rights organizations and civic affairs in Cleveland, Ohio. White had one daughter, Lillian. The collection consists of clippings, correspondence of White and his daughter Lillian, an original manuscript by Stella White, family history and biographical materials, and memorabilia.
