Led by E.S. Dowd, the Cuyahoga County campaign chairman, the agency coordinated the efforts of numerous social and charitable groups to reach a goal of 5,000,000 pounds of clothing. Collection began on April 23, 1945. By July 1945, the United National Clothing Collection met and exceeded its nationwide goal of 150,000,000 pounds of clothing.
