Her maternal grandfather, John Fitzgibbons was born in County Tipperary, Ireland and immigrated to the United States in 1904. He married Mary Carroll, who also came from County Tipperary. Fitzgibbons worked for the railroad in Cleveland and was a car inspector for the New York Central line.
