The collection consists of ledgers, journals and registers concerning the sale of merchandise. The collection pertains to the jewelry and retail business in Cleveland and the registers detail names of purchasers and types of purchases.

 Abstract:  Potter and Mellen, Inc., was a prominent Cleveland, Ohio, jewelry store. Founded in 1900 by Horace Potter, the company has been known as Potter Studio and Potter Bentley Studios. In 1933, Potter partnered with Louis Mellen to create Potter and Mellen. The company was sold to Ellen Stirn in 1989, and she expanded the company's products and services to include antiques and giftware. The collection consists of customer ledger books and giftware directories.
