History of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Charlestown, Ohio

The first Methodist Episcopal church was erected in Charlestown, Ohio, in 1829, but it was soon destroyed by a storm. After worshiping in a temporary structure, a church was constructed in 1859 on land donated by local school teacher Sophia Coe Newton. A parsonage was built in 1886.
