The Collection of Account Books, 1770-1920, consists of business and personal account books and other miscellaneous papers of business enterprises and residents of numerous places throughout Ohio and of Easton, Pennsylvania, Lee, Massachusetts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Redding, Connecticut. Includes records of farmers,jurists, civil engineers, medical doctors, laborers, tailors, merchants, school teachers, store keepers, steamboats, shipping companies of the Great Lakes, shoemakers, and wood carvers.
This collection will be useful to researchers studying business and entrepreneurship in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Connecticut in the late eighteenth, nineteenth, and early twentieth centuries. Those studying economic issues in farming, tavern keeping, Great Lakes shipping, shoe making, wood carving, and other business and industrial interests will find this collection useful.
