Abstract: | The Patrons of Husbandry, Shalersville Grange No. 1516 Minutes was the local grange of the Patrons of Husbandry, founded in 1867. Grange No. 1516 was organized in 1900, in Shalersville (Portage County), Ohio. Originally a secret organization open to both men and women, the Grange sponsored cooperatives for buying and selling goods, and nationally led the fight for fair railroad rates and practices. Less militant in Ohio than in the West, the Grange had become essentially a social organization by the 20th century. The collection consists of minutes of meetings which generally consisted of discussions of farming procedures and musical entertainment. |
