The National War Savings Committee was part of a national campaign to help finance America's engagement in World War I. Robert
G. Rhett was state director and Paul M. Rea was vice-director of South Carolina for the National War Savings Committee organized
by the Treasury Department in November 1917, primarily "to raise money (two billion dollars) to prosecute our fight for democracy
and decency in the world." The collection consists of correspondence, form letters, requisition forms, bulletins, news
releases, county reports, and other papers relating to the efforts of volunteers and salaried employees to sell thrift stamps
