Joseph William Briggs (1813 or 1814-1872) was a United States Post Office employee who served as special agent to the Cleveland,
Ohio, branch and traveled throughout the United States to direct the installation of city free delivery service. The collection
consists of correspondence, diaries, certificates, and newspaper clippings relating to Briggs' activities as developer of
the free mail delivery system and as special agent to the United States Post Office Department at Cleveland, Ohio.
