The collection consists of correspondence, minutes, financial reports, financial records, a scrapbook, articles of incorporation, and clippings. Includes Cuyahoga County Grand Jury reports and Foremen's Council minutes. |

The Grand Jury Association, was organized in Cleveland in 1947 by Judge Samuel Silbert and Bell Greve for the purpose of educating the public on the importance of jury service and the Grand Jury System. It also sought to educate the public on law enforcement problems, crime prevention, delinquency and the rehabilitation of criminals. In order to accomplish this the organization sponsored an eight week-long crime institute in the spring of each year. The group also supplied a "Handbook For Jurors" to individuals called to serve on the Grand Jury of Cuyahoga County. They also maintained a file on all of the reports given by the Foremen of the county's Grand Juries (from l925). They also sponsored the Foremen's Council which was composed of former Cuyahoga County Grand Jury foremen. The organization ceased to function in l978.
The Grand Jury Association Records, 1927-1978, consist of correspondence, minutes (from the association and the Foremen's Council), monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, financial records, Cuyahoga Grand Jury Reports, a scrapbook, articles of incorporation and clippings.
This collection pertains largely to the attempt made by the former grand jurors to educate the public on the Grand Jury System. Much of this work was accomplished by a series of speakers and the collection contains information as to the location and nature of lectures sponsored by the Association. It also contains material pertinent to the association's own interest in the spread of crime and the conduct of law enforcement both in Cleveland and the nation generally.
