The Cuyahoga Valley Demographic Survey was the result of a study funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities in which Dr. David Brose of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History was the principal investigator and the Western Reserve Historical Society was the sponsoring agency. The primary focus of the project was an archaeological dig on the Hale Farm in Bath, Ohio, for which the demographic data provided historical background information. The survey, conducted by graduate student N'omi Greber, included individuals identified as residents of nine Summit County townships and their livestock between 1800 and 1835. Sources for the survey included the United States Census, land records, marriage records, probate court records, and tax records. This data was assembled on index cards, transferred without names to magnetic tapes and run through the Case Western Reserve University computer. The printout sheets, often assembled by township, are the resulting data.
The Cuyahoga Valley Demographic Survey Records, 1979, consist primarily of data, index cards, coding forms, printouts, T-Test data rolls, and master files for the project administration.
The material in this collection pertains primarily to the census data, land transactions, marriages, property taxes, and livestock owned by residents of nine Summit County townships during the first half of the nineteenth century.
