Louis Kaferle (1900-1985) was a Cleveland, Ohio, resident who was very active in many facets of the local Slovenian community. He was a member and officer of the Slovenian National Benefit Society, a writer for the local Slovenian newspapers and magazines, president of Cankarjev Ustanov, an avid participant in the Slovenian musical and cultural arts activities, and a supporter of many Slovenian social organizations.
The Louis Kaferle Papers, Series II, 1934-1984 and undated, consist of correspondence, newspaper clippings, and programs. Most materials are in Slovenian.
This collection is useful as a supplement to the first series of Kaferle papers in that it provides further evidence of his activities in the Cleveland, Ohio, Slovenian community and its performing arts organizations. The collection also documents Kaferle's involvement with the North American Trust Company controversy, in which the bank gave large loans to relatives of bank officers just before defaulting. Kaferle was involved in the institution's restructuring and the court case against some of the bank's officers.
