History of the Cleveland Families Oral History Project

The Cleveland Families Oral History Project (1982-1985) was a three year endeavor to conduct and transcribe a series of oral history interviews with individuals and representatives of long-established Cleveland, Ohio, families which have played significant roles in the city's growth and development. The main purpose was to record the perceptions of these individuals toward government, business, charity and culture in the Greater Cleveland area. Funded by a grant from the William Bingham Foundation, the Western Reserve Historical Society hired Dr. Jeannette Tuve, professor of history at Cleveland State University, to conduct the interviews. During the project, thirty-nine interviews were conducted and transcribed.
