History of the Bosworth Hardware Company

The Bosworth Hardware Company (f. 1874), was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, by Newton C. Bosworth, a bookkeeper, at 1271 Euclid Avenue (later known as 5605 Euclid) where it remained until it moved to 1955 East 55th Street. First known as the Burrows-Bosworth Hardware Company (incorporated in 1889 with capitol assets of $25,000) the company became the Bosworth Hardware Company in 1905. The Bosworth Hardware Company seems to have specialized in industrial supply (although they did handle retail accounts) having accounts with companies like Ohio Bell Telephone, Western Electric, Lake Erie Glass, Cleveland Paper, and Warner and Swasey. Newton C. Bosworth died in 1929 and his son Walter became owner and president. Franz W. Bosworth was both owner and president from 1955 until 1983, when the business was sold. In 1963 the business name was changed to Bosworth Industrial Supply, Inc.
