The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is a national organization for military veterans. It was founded in 1899 in Columbus, Ohio, but it became a presence in Cleveland, Ohio, with the 1920 establishment of Post 84. VFW was founded upon commitment to veterans in need, commemoration of the deceased, and dedication to patriotism. As of 1995, there were forty-four active VFW posts in Greater Cleveland. VFW Post 7416 was founded in 1985 to serve veterans in the South Euclid, Ohio, area. One of the Post's most prominent programs is the annual Buddy Poppy drive, which raises money for veterans' hospitals.
