The Flower Pot Garden Club was established in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1928 to promote interest and knowledge in home gardening. Active membership was limited to thirty people committed to serving on committees and hosting meetings on a regular basis. Standing committees included a Program Committee to provide educational speakers and field trip opportunities, a Hospitality Committee to plan events hosted by individual members, a Civic Committee to plan gardening and conservation projects in the Cleveland community, and a Finance Committee to manage the income and expenditures of the club. The Flower Pot Garden Club met on a monthly basis to hear speakers, plan events, and coordinate activities. The early records of the club were not retained by the club, so an early history and accounting of club activities is difficult to ascertain. In the 1980s and 1990s the club was an affiliate of the Garden Center of Greater Cleveland the Garden Club of Ohio. While the by-laws of the group did not require its members to be women, every president of the club was female and its membership is assumed to have been entirely made up of women. Monthly meetings were devoted to educational programs on a variety of home gardening topics, including floral arranging, the growing and care of specific flowers in northeast Ohio, herb gardening, and holiday decorating. Civic projects included decorating the Western Reserve Historical Society for holidays and seasons. Due to a lack of meeting attendance and failure to attract younger members, the Flower Pot Garden Club disbanded in 1993.
The Flower Pot Garden Club Records, 1982-1993 and undated (1988-1993), consist of brochures, constitutions and by-laws, correspondence, information sheets, minutes, programs, and yearbooks.
