American Greetings was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, by Jacob Sapirstein in 1906. Starting out as a seller of Cleveland picture
postcard scenes, he later expanded the business to include greeting cards. By 1932, the Sapirstein Card Company began designing
and manufacturing its own cards. In 1938, the company changed its name to American Greetings Publishers, and in 1952 to American
Greetings Corporation. Joseph Oster was the Vice President of American Greetings in the 1960s. American Greetings printed
the official White House Christmas cards for President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1965-1967. In gratitude, the White House sent
Oster oversize prints of the Christmas cards from those years. The collection consists of three oversize prints of White
House Christmas cards.
