History of the Pardes School

The Pardes School (1999-2004) was a coeducational Jewish day high school founded in Beachwood, Ohio, to engage students in a comprehensive dual and integrated curriculum of general and Judaic studies from grade 9 to grade 12. The school was formed as the result of a feasibility study conducted in 1997 by the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland (JECC) in response to prospective parents and donors eager to see a new Jewish high school in Greater Cleveland. Similar high schools were opened in Greater Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and Boston in this same time period. Pardes opened in 1999 in the Cleveland College of Jewish Studies building located at 26500 Shaker Boulevard, Beachwood, Ohio. The school's Board of Trustees was composed of leading Cleveland Jewish philanthropists and educators. Its staff included faculty recruited through the efforts of the Mandel Foundation. The students were recruited from area elementary day schools and local public high schools. Student enrollment did not reach projections and the school closed after four years.

Scope and Content
