Abstract: | The Elizabeth Steele Whitridge family originated in England, Ireland, and Holland. Family members immigrated to the United States and settled in New York, Massachusetts, Indiana, and Ohio. The collection consists of American Civil War service records, a commencement program, correspondence between family members, family significant date charts, genealogical research notes, researched histories of family members, indenture contracts, memorial articles, newspaper clippings, pedigree charts, photographs (2), stock certificates, warranty contracts and wills. |

Elizabeth Steele Whitridge was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 16, 1911. She married Henry Long Baird from Columbus in 1934. Together they had a daughter, Nancy Hamilton Baird in 1937. Henry Long Baird died in 1939. Whitridge was married again in 1944 to Harry Otis Winsor, Jr. Winsor Jr. adopted Nancy and she elected to change her name to Nancy Baird Winsor. After moving to the northeast, Winsor Jr. and Whitridge had a child together, Eleanor Steele Winsor born October 9th, 1944, in New York, New York. Winsor Jr. worked at Canan Weed and Duryea in Connecticut.
Elizabeth Steele Whitridge's father, John Clifford Whitridge was born in Richmond, Indiana, in 1872. In 1904 he married Florence Eleanor Kelley in Columbus, Ohio. They moved to Ohio, and he worked as an Assignor for the Buckeye Steel Casting Company. The Whitridge side of the family immigrated to America in 1635 on "The Elizabeth" from Kent, England. William Whitridge was aged 36 at the time and came with his wife, Elizabeth and son Thomas, age 10.
Winsor Jr. was born on January 25 1906, and was the son of Harry Otis Winsor, Sr. from New York, New York. He married Mary Elizabeth Reed. Together they lived in New York where Winsor Sr. worked as the president of Henry Maurer and Son Manufacturing.The Winsor family came from Devonshire, England to Boston, Massachusetts.
