Abstract: Simon Stone came from England to America in 1635 with his wife, Joan Clarke, and their five children, Frances, Ann, Simon, Mary and John. They settled in Watertown, Massachusetts, where Stone took an active part in church and town affairs. The collection consists of one album containing individual portraits. Names of those pictured include Stone, Peirce, Wetherell, Edwards, Stedman, Woodworth, Hallock, Stevens, Fuller, Johnson, Paine, Hutchins, and Sabin.

Biography of the Stone Family

The Simon Stone Family traces its American roots back to Simon Stone (ca. 1585-ca.1665) who embarked from Ipswich, England, on the Ship Increase in 1635 bound for New England. Stone settled his wife Joan Clarke and their five children (Frances, Ann, Simon, Mary, and John) on the banks of the Charles River in Watertown, Massachusetts, and took an active part in church and town affairs.


Scope and Content

The Stone Family Photograph Album, 1860-1875, consists of one album containing individual portraits. Names of those pictured include Stone, Peirce, Wetherell, Edwards, Stedman, Woodworth, Hallock, Stevens, Fuller, Johnson, Paine, Hutchins, and Sabin. The album measures 8.75 x 11 inches and contains 33 black and white carte de visite and cabinet card photographs.
