Abstract: The Lakeland Freeway is a limited-access freeway in the northeastern suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. It runs with and parallel to Interstate 90 and State Route 2, and follows the shore of Lake Erie, linking the suburban areas of Lake County to Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. It passes through Cleveland, Euclid, Wickliffe, Willowick, Willoughby, Eastlake, Mentor, Painesville, and Painesville Township. The collection consists of photographs of the location and construction of the Lakeland Freeway, Cleveland, Ohio.

Scope and Content

The Lakeland Freeway Photographs, ca. 1947-1970, consist of 320 black and white photographs of the location and construction of the Lakeland Freeway, Cleveland, Ohio. The photographs measure 10 x 14 inches and smaller. The collection includes views of the different types of construction needed to complete the various portions of the freeway and the homes that were in the path of the freeway.

This collection will be useful to researchers studying the history of freeway expansion, transportation, and suburbanization in Cleveland and northeastern Ohio in the twentieth century.
