Scope and Content

The Elyria Police Department Photographs, 1949-1972, consist of group portraits of Police Department personnel and subjects depicting police work, the Elyria city jail, accident and murder scenes, courts, and views of the proposed Ohio Turnpike route through the Elyria area. The collection includes 176 black and white photographs that measure 8 x 10 inches. It also includes 17 black and white negatives.

This collection will be useful to researchers studying the history of law enforcement, crime, punishment, traffic control, and the development of the Ohio Turnpike in Elyria, Ohio, during the last half of the twentieth century.
