Abstract: Henry P. Moore (1833-1911) was a professional photographer from New Hampshire who operated primarily at Hilton Head, South Carolina, during 1862-1863, where he chiefly took views of the Third New Hampshire Regiment during the American Civil War. The collection consists of views of Civil War forts, hospitals, plantations, camp scenes, naval ships, military buildings, and headquarters, primarily at Hilton Head, South Carolina, and also at other South Carolina and Georgia islands.

Scope and Content

The Henry P. Moore Photographs, ca. 1862-1863, consist of views of Civil War forts, hospitals, plantations, camp scenes, naval ships, military buildings, and headquarters, primarily at Hilton Head, South Carolina, and also at other South Carolina and Georgia islands. The collection includes 307 black and white photographs of varying sizes, 134 glass plate negatives of varying sizes, and 33 black and white copy negatives of varying sizes.

This collection will be useful to researchers studying the history of the American Civil War, particularly the activities of the 3rd New Hampshire troops in South Carolina and Georgia.
