the collection consists of disassembled photograph albums containing images pertaining to the American Civil War. Included
are images of battles and battlefields, including troops, headquarters, entrenchments, and buildings; transportation, including
bridges, railroads, and supply methods; guns and artillery; camps and camp life; military and field hospitals; forts; gunboats,
warships, and other views of the Navy; civilian scenes, including cities and towns, courthouses, sanitary fairs, hospitals,
churches, and depots; and cemeteries. Some of the photographs were taken by Mathew B. Brady (ca. 1822-1896) and Alexander
Gardner (1821-1882).
