Numbers 2000 was a Jewish family history project created by Melitz, a Jewish-Zionist educational organization in Israel. The Jewish Education Center of Cleveland (JECC) implemented the program in the Cleveland, Ohio, area in 1993. Numbers 2000 was initially implemented in five congregational schools, and then grew to eight schools the following year. The program was designed to interest students in their Jewish heritage both in and out of the classroom. Projects included finding old family photographs and documents, interviewing relatives, and developing family trees. For one project, students brought a photograph, document, or heirloom to the Western Reserve Historical Society to be photographed. These photographs were developed into slides, with the intention that the slides would become an educational resource for future generations of Cleveland Jews.
Numbers 2000 Slides, 1995-1997 consist of approximately 600 color slides depicting documents, photographs, and objects that students participating in Numbers 2000 felt represented their heritage.
