 Abstract:  Lethia Cousins Fleming (1876-1963) was a teacher from West Virginia who became a social worker for the Division of Child Welfare, Cuyahoga County, Ohio (1931-1951). She and her husband, Cleveland city councilman Thomas W. Fleming, were active in local civic and charitable organizations. The collection consists of photographs relating to the activities of Lethia Fleming and various African American organizations. Includes a group portrait, including the Flemings, with Josephine Baker in Paris, 1927.

 Abstract:  The Cleveland Day Nursery Association was founded in 1882 by the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) and the Young Ladies Temperance League to provide day care and health services for children of working mothers in Cleveland, Ohio. Its members worked for legislation, standards and licensing to improve all local nurseries. The collection consists of photographs and albums relating to the Cleveland (Ohio) Day Nursery Association. Included are scenes of activities and facilities at Harkness Summer Camp, Wade Nursery, and Bingham Nursery. Also included are photographs of children inside and on the playground and participating in other day nursery activities, publicity photographs, and exteriors of buildings.

 Abstract:  Miles Park Presbyterian Church was established in 1832 as the First Congregational Church of Newburgh, Ohio. It was chartered in 1842 as the First Presbyterian Church of Newburgh. By 1873 Newburgh was annexed to Cleveland and the Church was commonly known as Miles Park Presbyterian Church. It continued to be known by this name, despite a 1925 act to rename it the John M. Davidson Memorial Presbyterian Church Society. The collection consists of a photograph album and photographs of the Miles Park Presbyterian Church of Cleveland, Ohio. Included are portraits of members of the congregation, interior and exterior views of the church, and group portraits of various groups involved in church-related activities. The album depicts church members serving in the armed forces during World War II.

 Abstract:  The Jewish Community Center of Cleveland was formed in 1948 by the merger of the Council Educational Alliance (est. 1899), Camp Wise (est. 1907), the Jewish Young Adult Bureau (est. 1939), and the Cultural Department of the Jewish Community Council (est. 1945), for the purpose of providing recreational social and cultural programs to Cleveland's Jewish community. By 1959 the center moved from Cleveland to the suburb of Cleveland Heights. The collection consists of photographs, negatives, and glass slides relating to the various functions, activities, and facilities of the Jewish Community Center of Cleveland, Ohio, and its members. Included are indoor events, such as dances, parties, and plays; outdoor activities including camp houses, recreation houses, and other buildings; photographs of the 50th anniversary party of the Jewish Community Center; and photographs of people, activities, and facilities at Camp Wise.

 Abstract:  The Cleveland Manual Training School was incorporated in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1885 and opened in 1886 as part of the curriculum of the public school system there to provide technical and vocational training on the high school level. University School was founded in Cleveland in 1890 to provide the technical training its founders believed necessary to prepare young men to be industrial leaders; today it is a college preparatory school for boys. The collection consists of one photograph album depicting interior and exterior views of the buildings and facilities of the Cleveland Manual Training School and of University School, both of Cleveland, Ohio.

 Abstract:  Ella Grant Wilson (1854-1939) was a Cleveland, Ohio florist, publicist, journalist and author. She was founder of the Floral Syndicate, a publicity service which promoted conventions and other activities of interest to the floral industry and was garden editor of the Plain Dealer. Her series in the Sunday Plain Dealer, focusing on historic Cleveland led to her book, "Famous old Euclid Avenue", featuring anecdotes, history and biographies relating to the homes and personalities of "Millionaires' Row." The collection consists of photographs of flowers, floral arrangements, and floral displays. Included are many views of early homes of Cleveland, Ohio, and Cleveland area florists and florist operations and facilities.

3194Title:  Troop A, First Cleveland Cavalry Photographs

 Abstract:  Troop A was founded in 1877 as an independent military unit to defend against strikers and unruly mobs. It affiliated with the Ohio National Guard in 1877, formed part of the 1st Ohio Volunteer Cavalry in 1898, was absorbed into the 135th Field Artillery in 1918, and reorganized in 1920 as Troop A of the 107th Cavalry Regiment of the Ohio National Guard. It became part of the 107th Armored Cavalry Regiment in 1947. The Cleveland Gatling Gun Battery was also founded in 1877 to quell labor violence. It disbanded by 1905. The che collection consists of albums and loose photographs depicting the unit at outings, encampments, celebrations, and ceremonial services, including the inaugurations of Presidents William McKinley and William Howard Taft, and the funerals of President William McKinley, Senator Marcus A. Hanna, and U.S. Ambassador to France Myron T. Herrick. Locations depicted include Dover Bay, Ohio; Camps Perry, George Crook, McKinley, Beaumont, Nash, and other military camps in Ohio and other states; and in France during World War I. Also included are views of Troop A's Mexican border service in 1916. A large portion of the collection consists of numerous studio individual portraits of members of Troop A and the Cleveland Gatling Gun Battery.

 Abstract:  East End Neighborhood House was founded in 1907 by Hedwig Kosbob, as a sewing school in a predominantly Hungarian and Slovak neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. It was incorporated in 1910. By 1914 it began cultural and recreational programs, and by the Great Depression it grew into a full service community center, adding such services as day care nurseries, Americanization classes, and aid to Japanese Americans relocated to Cleveland during World War II. The collection consists of one scrapbook containing photographs and newspaper clippings pertaining to the East End Neighborhood House of Cleveland, Ohio.

 Abstract:  Bellefaire was organized in 1868 in Cleveland, Ohio, as the Jewish Orphan Asylum. By 1942 it changed its name to Bellefaire and began specializing in the treatment of emotionally disturbed children. The collection consists of individual portraits, including staff and superintendents; and group portraits, including general outdoor recreation; swimming activities; baseball, football, and basketball; fairs and circuses; reunions; plays, music, and art activities; interior and exterior views of the Jewish Orphan Asylum and Bellefaire buildings; and Cherry Farm and Camp Wise.  Abstract:  Emmet A. Beebe (1849-1933) was the great-grandson of David Beebe, Sr., a pioneer settler of Ridgeville Township in Lorain County, Ohio. Emmet was born in North Ridgeville in 1849 and spent his early life working on the family farm. In 1885 he married Mary Elizabeth Bailus at Dover, Ohio. About 1887 they moved to a farm near Tustin, Michigan, where Emmet was also engaged in the lumbering business. In the late 1920s the Beebes returned to North Ridgeville. The collection consists of one photograph album containing cabinet card and carte de visite portraits of members and friends of the Beebe family. Also includes several loose tintypes and carte de visites of family members and friends.

 Abstract:  Ben B. Wickham was the Law Director of Cleveland, Ohio (1916-1917) who was associated with the Van Sweringen brothers and their acquisition of land used for the construction of the Terminal Tower and the development of the Shaker Heights area. The collection consists of one photograph album containing photographs of railroad yards and proposed construction sites for bridges and other excavations in Cleveland, Ohio. The first six pages are used to sequentially represent the blueprints of a proposed Cleveland and Youngstown Railroad route through the east side of Cleveland to Shaker Heights.

 Abstract:  Ihna Thayer Frary (1873-1965) was the membership and publicity secretary of the Cleveland Museum of Art (1921-1946) and author of books concerning historic homes and properties. The collection consists of one photograph album and loose photographs of mostly architectural views, including several of Shandy Hall, Geneva, Ohio. The photograph album includes views of Frary's travels to the West, and many postcards.
