| | | | Creator: | Garrett, William Robertson, 1839-1904 | | | | | Tennessee Historical Society | | | | Publication: | Southern Methodist publishing house, Nashville, Tenn,1884. | | | | Notes: | Two papers read before the Tennessee historical society, Nov. 8, 1881, and March 18, 1884. The South Carolina cession was a strip of land 12 miles wide and more than 400 miles long, south of the southern boundary of the present state of Tennessee. It was claimed by both South Carolina and Georgia and, pending the settlement of the controversy, was ceded to the United States by the former state in 1781.
