 Abstract:  Cyrus H. Stockwell (died 1864) was a soldier in Company G, 77th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. He enlisted on September 1, 1862. He was wounded during battle at Sabrine Crossroads, near New Orleans in April 1864, and died on May 13, 1864, at the age of 32, at New Orleans, Louisiana. He is buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Acton, Massachusetts. Stockwell spent some time on patrol boats in and around Louisiana and Texas. The collection consists of thirteen letters and three diaries written by Stockwell during the Civil War.

Bascom's son, Gustavus, fought in the Civil War and became a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army. The collection consists of two diaries dated from December 3, 1862 to October 10, 1864 which detail Wise's experiences in the Union Army and his return home after his discharge.

Auld was a photographer and artist during his service, selling battle photographs and drawings to newspapers and journals and fellow soldiers. The collection consists of letters from David to his family, particularly his father, during the American Civil War and several letters to David from his wife and cousin.

 Abstract:  Charles H. Anderton (b. 1844) of Bedford, Ohio, was soldier in Company D, the 1st Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. He was wounded and captured on May 27, 1864 near Altoona, Georgia. His whereabouts were reported as unknown at the end of the war. He participated in the battles of Tullahoma, Chattanooga, and Chickamauga, and, later, served with Sherman in Georgia. The collection consists of a Civil War diary, communication from the War Department to Anderton's father, receipt for money wired home, and a scrap claimed to be from Anderton's brigade flag.

 Abstract:  John Healy (b. 1805) was a pioneer of Newburgh, Ohio, who operated the town's only general store and was a deacon and clerk of the Miles Avenue Church of Christ, where James A. Garfield was pastor. During the American Civil War Healy's son, John Sullivan (1842-1908), fought in the Seventh Ohio Volunteer Infantry, while his other son, Edson E. (1844-1932), worked with the United States Commissary Department. They were both captured at New Creek, West Virginia in 1864 and imprisoned at Castle Thunder in Richmond. They were released in 1865, on exchange, through the efforts of Julia Wheeler who later married John S. Healy. Edson E. Healy married Esther Taylor in 1869. Their three children were John Egbert (Bert), Bruce Zarah, and Cecil Taylor. The Healys remained in the family business until their retirement at the beginning of the twentieth century. The collection consists of family correspondence, seven letters from James A. Garfield to deacon John Healy, Civil War documents, deeds, records from the Miles Avenue Church of Christ, an oversize account book from the Healy store, and miscellaneous newspaper clippings and printed materials.

 Abstract:  The Sohl Family is a Cleveland, Ohio, family of German-Americans, descended from Johann Georg Sohl (anglicized to George Sohl) who settled in Cleveland in 1840. His son, Gustav, married Mary Goodrich, whose father, George Elliott Goodrich, served in the 124th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War and was one of the soldiers assigned to escort the body of President Lincoln from Washington to Illinois. His grandson, Ralph William Sohl, was an engineer for a tire and rubber company. The collection consists of George Sohl's passport and related papers, his will, Sohl family correspondence, deeds and other records relating to property in Egg Harbor, N.J., cemetery lot purchase records, birth and death certificates for Ralph William Sohl, and Goodrich family papers, including a marriage certificate, civil war correspondence, and a copy of the order for troops to accompany Lincoln's body to Illinois. Included in the correspondence is a letter from George Goodrich expressing his feelings about the assassination of Lincoln.

 Abstract:  Norman L. Norris joined the Seventh Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry in 1861 during the American Civil War. The Seventh was organized at Cleveland, Ohio, and Camp Dennison, Ohio. Norris achieved the rank of corporal. He and the Seventh participated in the battles of Cross Lanes, West Virginia; and in the battles of Winchester, Port Republic, and Cedar Mountain, Virginia. At Cedar Mountain, Norris sustained a shoulder wound and was sent to the Washington Street Hospital in Alexandria, where he died on September 4, 1862. The collection consists of an electrostatic copy of a transcript of the journal kept by Norman Norris during his service in the Seventh Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, during the Civil War. There is also a pedigree chart of the Lemuel Norris family and their descendents to the fifth generation.
