 Abstract:  Albert Yeomans (1826-1890) was an attorney and probate judge in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio. He was the Captain of Company B of the 125th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. The collection consists of appointment papers, correspondence, election certificates, a journal entry, a list, a muster role, obituaries, pension certificates, reports, speeches, and statements.

 Abstract:  Thomas Saxton Ireland (1895-1969) was a Cleveland, Ohio, politician, lawyer and writer who ran as a conservative Republican candidate for the office of mayor of Cleveland, 1959, as well as numerous other political offices. He was a correspondent for the Plain dealer and several other newspapers and authored a number of books, including several on the Saint Lawrence Seaway and one on the Sam Sheppard murder case. The collection consists of materials relating to Ireland's many political campaigns, manuscripts of published and unpublished books, correspondence, drafts of newspaper articles, scrapbooks, genealogical materials relating to his family, various certificates and personal miscellany. The collection is useful for understanding Ireland's ardent advocacy of the Saint Lawrence Seaway, his mayoral campaign and other political activities, and his attitudes as a conservative Republican in the 1950s and 1960s. Also included are some materials which reflect the rampant anti-communist sentiment of the period.

 Abstract:  Frances Payne Bingham Bolton was a Republican congresswoman from Ohio's 22nd congressional district. Bolton served on the committees of Indian Affairs (1940) and Foreign Affairs (1941-1968), participating in foreign aid hearings and conducting study trips abroad, including a trip to the Middle East in 1947 and one to Africa in 1955. She served as a congressional delegate to the United Nations Eighth General Assembly, and was involved with the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association and helped organize the Accokee Foundation to protect the Potomac shoreline across from Mount Vernon. Mrs. Bolton had a long-time interest in nursing and nursing education and provided funds to establish the nursing school at Western Reserve University, as well as founding the Payne Fund to assist a variety of educational and other charitable programs. The collection consists of transcripts of 16 interviews conducted with individuals who had known and worked with Frances Payne Bolton in her capacity as United States Representative from Ohio's 22nd District (1940-1968), as a member of the Republican Party, in her family and personal interests, or in her many philanthropic and advocacy endeavors. The interviews were conducted in 1989 by Leslie Anne Solotko as part of the project conducted at the Western Reserve Historical Society, Cleveland, Ohio, to process the papers of Congresswoman Frances Payne Bolton (MS 3943). Questions focused on Mrs. Bolton's personality and career; and her political, family, business, and personal interests. Interviewees included Viola Anderson, David K. Ford, Zelma George, Donald W. Gropp, Alice Hansen, Robert E. Hughes, Theodore F. Owen, H. Chapman Rose, Rozella M. Schlotfeldt, John Burns Simpson, Margaret Chase Smith, Robert Ware Strauss, Charles A. Vanik, Helen Wallace, Paul W. Walter, and Fred White.

 Abstract:  Alcinus Ward Fenton (1839-1923) was a soldier in the 6th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, which was stationed in Virginia during most of the American Civil War. He later served as a customs broker, customs inspector, and chairman of the Board of Examiners of the Civil Service Customs House in Cleveland, Ohio. The collection consists of Civil War letters written by Fenton while serving with the 6th Regiment, Ohio Cavalry; 2 scrapbooks of reunion records (ca. 1884) of the 6th Ohio Cavalry Veterans Association; and scrapbooks of letters and newspaper clippings relating to Fenton's career in customs administration, his relations with Charles F. Leach (customs collector and Republican political leader), political patronage, and Fenton's fitness for office.
