 Abstract:  The National War Savings Committee was part of a national campaign to help finance America's engagement in World War I. Robert G. Rhett was state director and Paul M. Rea was vice-director of South Carolina for the National War Savings Committee organized by the Treasury Department in November 1917, primarily "to raise money (two billion dollars) to prosecute our fight for democracy and decency in the world." The collection consists of correspondence, form letters, requisition forms, bulletins, news releases, county reports, and other papers relating to the efforts of volunteers and salaried employees to sell thrift stamps and war-savings stamps throughout the State of South Carolina.

 Abstract:  John S. Strong was a land agent for Governor Caleb Strong of Massachusetts and Oliver Ellsworth of Connecticut. His son, Emory, was a merchant who also acted as his assistant. Another son, Warner, was a merchant, justice of the peace, and postmaster of Strongsville, Ohio. The collection consists of correspondence, deeds, agreements, bills, memoranda, receipts, financial accounts, and other papers (1806-1856) of members of the family of John Stoughton Strong, pertaining primarily to the sale of land and the development of the township of Strongsville, Ohio. Includes business and legal papers of Emery Strong, papers of Warner Strong, and material (1916-1917) relating to Strongsville's centennial celebration.

Includes letters (1840-1848) to Nathan Daggett, postmaster at Kirtland, and other papers relating to postal service there, including a petition addressed to United States Postmaster Francis Granger requesting the removal of Kirtland's incumbent postmaster, undated.

 Abstract:  The 37th Division, American Expeditionary Force, was a World War I army unit composed primarily of National Guard troops from Ohio. It saw action in the Baccarat, Pannes and Marbache sectors of France, and participated in the Meuse-Argonne offensive, France, and the Ypres-Lys offensive, Belgium. The collection consists of intelligence reports, maps, journals of operations, movement orders, tables of organization, training memoranda, aeronautical reports, plans of offense and defense, bulletins, field orders, and other papers pertaining to the command of the 37th Division under Maj. Gen. Charles S. Farnsworth, 1917-1918, and to its military actions in France and Belgium. Includes correspondence and affidavits (1923) of Maj. Edward P. Lawler, regarding the efforts of the division in capturing the village of Montfaucon, France; and histories of other Army divisions which saw action in Europe.
